Michael Baier is currently the Director of Orchestras at Alice Drive Middle School in Sumter, SC. During his five years of teaching at ADMS, the orchestra program has tripled in size to over 180 students. He is also a director of the Sumter REACH gifted strings program and is an active studio instructor with many students having participated in numerous Region and All-State Orchestras. Mr. Baier holds a Bachelors of Music degree along with a Performance Certificate on the Double Bass from the University of South Carolina. While at USC he taught beginner orchestra and private lessons as part of the nationally recognized USC String Project. As a bassist, he studied with Dr. Craig Butterfield. Mr. Baier continues to perform regularly on both cello and bass throughout the state, primarily in the Sumter and Columbia areas. In Mr. Baier's free time, he is an avid bee keeper. He also enjoys working on vehicles in addition to racing in several organizations. He is an instructor with the National Auto Sports Association and Sports Car Club of America where he instructs new drivers interested in pursuing a racing license. He frequents race tracks such as Daytona IS, Charlotte MS, Road Atlanta, Roebling Road and Carolina Motorsports Park.
