In ELA 8, we will examine literary and informational texts and explore themes surrounding the author’s perspective and its impact on the reader and society. The thematic focus of this course will enable us to develop our skills as critical thinkers, readers, and writers. This year we will read/view a variety of different works including: short stories, poems, novels, articles, essays, and documentaries. During our text dependent discussions we will consider both the meaning and structural composition of the works. Throughout this course we will do a great deal of writing. We will write personal narratives, text based reflections, persuasive essays, and literary analyses.
